Collections & Archives

The Institute of Classical Archaeology and Byzantine Archaeology houses several collections and archives available for teaching and research. The holdings include original antiquities as well as replicas, plaster casts and impressions, and historical photographs and negatives. These collections are being progressively digitised, and are frequently made accessibe to members of the public as part of outreach events.

The collection serve as study material for students at Heidelberg University, and are regularly used in courses across various disciplines, including Classical Studies, the Master’s programme in Cultural Heritage and Cultural Property Protection, and Art History. Seminars and field trips from other universities are warmly welcomed, upon request. The collections and archives continue to be cataloged and published in greater depth; they are available to scholars for research purposes, both on-site and, in part, digitally.
